Phosphorus deficiency causes stunted plant growth, whereas phosphorus excess may lead to antagonistic interactions with micronutrients, especially zinc. A Phosphorus dynamics model has been developed which can be used to determine appropriate fish feeding rates to support the desired number of plants grown in an aquaponics system, keeping the fluctuation of Phosphorus concentrations at desired rates, and most importantly, avoiding excess or lack of dissolved Phosphorus.
